Had been in Australia for 4 weeks and was due to fly out from Sydney that very evening. What better way to spend the last few hours there on a Sunday afternoon.
A great full zydeco sound from just accordion, guitar and drums (they had a rubboard player but he spent most of the gig on his back at the side of the stage (ill, I believe!!)). I spent a lot of time wondering where the cool bass riffs were coming from until I realised they were being played on the accordion with the left hand, at the same time as the right hand zydeco rhythms - a very talented box player.
There are apparently only three zydeco bands in all of Australia - Perth, Darwin and this one in Sydney. Maybe there's a niche in the market over there.
