I went to see From the Jam in Manchester last night - my time-warped friend was let out on night-release by his wife, so it was a nostalgia cue. Bruce Foxton & Rick Buckler - the two members of The Jam who obviously weren't Paul Weller have "reformed" The Jam with a not very subtle name shift and are playing a fans' wishlist of songs. Some of it smacks of tribute-itis, but the Weller replacement is more than capable and at times a scary doppelganger, instrumentally and vocally. Some of the songs have stood up well - a fiery "Eton Rifles" and a rousing "That's Entertainment" in particular, but others like "Pretty Green" were showing their age. The venue was packed out, so at least the two worker Jam members are getting their payday at long last.
